Artist's BiographyTOM KRAMER Bio:
A native New Yorker without the accent, Tom’s creative career began in 1994 when his play, CAVIAR AND CRUMBCAKE, was selected for a reading at the now defunct Circle Rep. Tom wishes to point out that ‘Crumbcake’ had nothing to do with the closing of the company.
In 1995, he was selected as one of three playwrights into the prestigious Playwrights Horizons Theatre Workshop, where three one-act plays of his were produced: PAINFULLY EMPLOYED, HEADSHOTS, and DIM BULBS. PAINFULLY EMPLOYED went on to receive a full production at the Harold Clurman Theatre where it launched the 1995 Playwrights Horizons Winterfest and later in ’95 it was voted the 15th best short play in the United States by Writer`s Digest. PAINFULLY EMPLOYED has since been produced at the 76th Street Theatre and the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City.
CAVIAR AND CRUMBCAKE enjoyed a successful run at the 2000 Ensemble Studio Theater Summer Conference while his two-act comedy, DEATH WARMED OVER appeared at The Neighborhood Playhouse in 2001. His one-act hit, CRIME COACHING, 101 was performed at the 1999 Ensemble Studio Theater Octoberfest, while his one-act comedy, MISS PRISM’S ACTING SCHOOL FOR WRESTLERS appeared at the Neighborhood Playhouse in 1999 as well.
In front of the camera, Kramer has appeared as a principal performer or spokesman in numerous national TV commercials ranging from the Liquid Plumr man, to the Total Cereal man, to a Miller Beer man. He has also lent his voice to various voice-over spots, and hopes to get said voice back one of these days.
In addition to working as an actor, dramatist and columnist, he has researched and written for the award-winning PBS series, NATURE. Subjects included: Cats, bats and horses. To this day, he’s allergic to two and still scared of one.
Having traded in his black, New York City writer’s garb for the softer shades of a California resident, Tom is also a humorist in the religious world under the pseudonym, THE RELIGIOUS RASCAL® and still contributes articles to religious publications whenever he’s feeling guilty.
Musically and more importantly, Kramer is the founder and percussionist of the musical comedic group, PAINFULLY EMPLOYED®.
His days as a musician took full flight in 1998, when he was accepted into New York City's, The Drummers Collective as a percussionist. He formed PAINFULLY EMPLOYED® later that same year.
Tom is extremely proud and thankful to be a part of the Conn-Selmer/Ludwig family of musicians.
