Artist's BiographyNathan Gingrich was born and raised on the west coast of Canada. He received his Bachelor of Music Education Degree from the University of Regina. He then went on to study classical trombone performance at the Hochschule fuer Music FRANZ LISZT, Weimar, Germany, earning an Advanced Artistâ€™s Diploma and then a Degree in Jazz and Pop Music performance.
He was a founding member and manager for the Salve Brass international brass quartet. He has performed around the world with many groups - including several Canadian tours, tours around Germany and Europe and even all the way to China!
Mr. Gingrich joined in the Calgary Board of Education at the end of August 2006 when he returned from Germany.
He is active in the Calgary musical scene, having performed with a great variety of ensembles (including New West Brass, the Calgary Jazz Orchestra, Prime Time Big Band, Altius Brass, the Alberta Winds, among others) and teaching workshops and master classes. In December of 2008, Mr. Gingrich organized Calgaryâ€™s first-ever â€œTubaChristmasâ€.
Mr. Gingrich currently teaches at William Aberhart High School in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He directs the concert band, a jazz ensemble and has recently started a trombone ensemble and brass quintet â€“ beginning a culture of chamber music at the school. He always looks forward to the journey to achieve musical excellence and appreciation for the performing arts.
Mr. Gingrich plays on a Conn 88H trombone for his classical gigs. You can see him with a King 2B â€œJiggs Whighamâ€ model at jazz and pop performances. More recently Mr. Gingrich acquired a Bach 50B bass trombone to continue to grow and be a life-long learner on his instrument of passion and, for the young kidsâ€™ performances and workshops, Mr. Gingrich enjoys taking out his multi-coloured â€œP-Boneâ€!
