Biography

Cory Tiffin received his Bachelor's of Music in Clarinet Performance from DePaul University in 2007 and had the privilege of studying with Wagner Campos, Julie DeRoche and Larry Combs. He is the Principal Clarinet of the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra in addition to having served as a member of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Illinois Chamber Orchestra and the Lira Ensemble. Tiffin has performed with many other ensembles, such as the Northwest Festival Orchestra, New Millennium Orchestra, Candle Opera Company and Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra (IVSO), where he has played clarinet, bass and Eb clarinets and alto saxophone. Tiffin's passion lies in chamber music; he is a founding member of Anaphora, a year-old organization that is already making waves in Chicago with its exploration and interpretation of classical, jazz, and contemporary music alike. He performs extensively with Anaphora and is a member of the Carma Trio, an ensemble that has toured the greater Chicagoland area and throughout the United States and Europe over the last four years for both private events and public concerts. Cory Tiffin was the 2001 IVSO Young Artists Concerto Competition Winner. Tiffin is on faculty at the People's Music School in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood in addition to being the master teach for the clarinet sections of the YOURS and REACH orchestras, respectively. These groups are, in effect, Chicago's first "El Sistema" Nucleo, the now world-renowned Venezuelan system that has produced the likes of Gustavo Dudamel. In December 2008, Tiffin appeared as a guest soloist with the Illinois Valley Community College Wind Ensemble and remains an advocate for the arts in the Illinois Valley and his native city of Ottawa, IL.
