ALAN LAWSON

Biography

Alan's career has included many styles of music. He has played with the Baltimore Symphony, the Las Vegas Philharmonic and the Nevada Wind Ensemble. He toured nationally with the Johnny Mann Singers, Gate and Jimmy "JJ" Walker. His credits include the Jerry Lewis MDA National Telethon Orchestra, many TV and radio commercials, as well as over thirty Broadway musicals such as Evita, Chorus Line, West Side Story, Music Man, Hair, Mame, Sweeny Todd, Annie, Chicago, and the Producers.

Alan has been forutnate to work with many Las Vegas entertainers such as Tony Bennett, Olivia Newton-John, Dean Martin, Natalie Cole, Don Rickles and Frank Sinatra. He is highly recognized by his peers as a first-rate musician and is an excellent "woodwind doubler". He is especially known for his clarinet and bass clarinet playing.

Alan has a Masters Degree in Clarinet with an emphasis in Jazz Composition from UNLV in Las Vegas, Nevada. se also had Bachelor Degrees in Music Ed. and Applied Clarinet from Peabody Conservatory of the John's Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended the Berklee School of Music in Boston and has earned an associate degree in computer systems (MIS). Some of his private teachers have included Joseph Viola, Leon Russianoff, Thomas Gasparino, Raphael Saunders, and Ignatius Gennusa.

Concurrently with his performance career, Alan has been on staff with the Clark County School District. He started the high school jazz program at LVA, the Las Vegas Academy of International Studies and Performing Arts and he was the director of the Las Vegas All-Star High School Jazz Band at the Reed Whipple Cultural Center.

Presently, Alan has just completed a year run with the Producers Broadway Show in Las Vegas. He is the musical director for SuperStyk, a contemporary woodwind quartet.
