ALAN KNIETER

Biography

Alan Knieter is a native of Brooklyn, NY. He received his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from Manhattan School of Music, and was a student conductor for two seasons at the Berkshire Music Center at Tanglewood. He studied clarinet with Leon Russianoff.

He was a band/orchestra teacher in the NYC public secondary schools and with Professional Certification in Supervision and Administration, he opened 2 new high school Music Departments and supervised a department of 16 choral and instrumental teachers.

Alan spent years playing club dates and society parties in the New York metropolitan area, and has appeared as a guest artist in New Orleans, Las Vegas, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, and Chicago. In Boca Raton, FL, he played Solo Clarinet & Tenor Sax for seven years with the Dick Cully Big Band.

In 1995, after playing principal clarinet with the Israel Pops Orchestra at Madison Square Garden, he decided that it was time to form his own band. Since 1995, Alan has been the band of choice for many Atlanta venues, enabling Alan's band to grow from just a handful of jobs in 1995, to more than 200 jobs in the last few years! His music has appeal to the eclectic taste. Alan Knieter Entertainment offers classical, Big Band, Corporate Jazz, motown rock 'n roll, Klezmer wedding music and all the music to make a great party. The difference can always be found on the dance floor.

More recently, he has studied Jazz Clarinet with Eddie Daniels and classical clarinet with Laura Ardan.

Hobbies include general aviation flying as Airline Transport Pilot with Flight Instructor Ratings, Numismatics, Golf and gourmet cooking.

Alan was greatly influenced by the playing of Stanley Drucker, Laura Ardan, Benny Goodman, Eddie Daniels, Joe Allard and Stan Getz.
